Burgundy Kinesis Suncatcher

This original design, fused glass suncatcher is cast in a mold using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings. The gradient coloring makes it look as if it's being illuminated from the bottom left. It hangs from a thin steel chain that is wrapped around the top curve of the glass. The glass is 12.5" long x 5.75" wide.

When I designed and made the mold, I was thinking about energy, and a depiction of an inanimate object infused with animation. To me this resembles a ribbon draped across something and someone grabs both ends, pulls it taut and lets go, the ends of the ribbon move upwards as if of their own volition.

Blue and Pink Spiral Ivy Earrings

These dramatic and playful, electric blue earrings are hand painted with a pink pattern that spirals and undulates around the glass, and fused in a kiln. The glass is approximately 1 1/8"wide and 1" deep, the chain hangs about 5/8" long, and they are surprisingly light for their size.

The bezel is made using stained glass copper foil technique and lead-free solder. The ear-wires are sterling silver.

Large Burgundy Tree Pendant on 3 mm satin co

This original, fused glass pendant is approximately 1 3/4" long and 1 3/8" wide. It is cut in a softened triangle, and the pink, gold and light blue tree is painted on and fused into the burgundy colored glass in a kiln.

I have always loved trees. I love climbing them, smelling them, listening to the wind move through them, eating their fruit and nuts. Visually I love the fractal quality of their branches and roots, the texture of the bark and structure, and the ways that they change with the seasons. They serve as protection against erosion and provide homes and food for many creatures and are an essential part of our world.

The bezel is made using copper foil technique with lead free solder. The pendant hangs from a 3mm black, satin cord that is adjustable from 14"-27", it can be worn long, or as a choker.

The cord is tied with slipknots that slide to lengthen or shorten the necklace. You slide them open to get it over your head, and then slide them into position of the desired length. Matching earrings or a different color cord are available by request. Chains are also available.

Turquoise and Purple Pinwheel Suncatcher

This fused glass suncatcher is approximately 5". It was cast in an original design, handmade mold using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color and intricacy of design is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings. It hangs from a thin steel chain.

I love the repetitive, fractal quality of this shape. It, or something similar, has been used throughout the ages to represent the sun, the galaxy and the passage of time. It is a sister symbol to the spiral.

The thin dark purple line in this piece outlines the arms and then mimics the shape almost in opposition. The radiating blues and lavender serve to accentuate and draw together the painted pattern and the molded one.

This piece looks beautiful hanging in a window where it will catch the light and send color across the room, or as a wall accent. It can be hung on the wall with a nail or decorative hook.

This original, 1 1/4" x 1 3/4", fused glass pendant is formed in a mold I designed and made, using crushed glass called frit. The glass shrinks as it melts in a kiln and multiple firings are required to create a cohesive shape and pattern.

This heart is a rich, turquoise blue with a bold burgundy shadow along one edge.

The glass heart hangs from a 3mm raspberry colored satin cord that is adjustable from 14"-27", it can be worn long, or as a choker. This necklace is perfect for anyone with a metal allergy.

The cord is tied with slipknots that slide along the cord to make it longer and shorter. You slide them open to get it over your head, and then tighten them to the desired length. This pendant is available on a different color cord by request. Chains are also available.

Harmony Suncatcher

This 6.5", fused glass suncatcher was cast in an original design, handmade mold using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color and intricacy of design is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings. The intricate, mandala-esque pattern that comes across the right side is, later, painted on and fused into the glass. It hangs from a thin steel chain.

In this piece I wanted to depict variations in texture and form, that contrast and work well together. Repeating around the ring I made a pattern of three wide, wavy, mottled, translucent lines separated by three, semi-opaque, thin, wobbly lines of similar color. Over the surface I painted a pathway of intricate line-patterns, set off-center to the piece, but symmetrical to itself, bracketed within one of the sets of the internal pattern.

This piece looks beautiful hanging in a window where it will catch the light and send color across the room, or as a wall accent. It can be hung on the wall by the chain, or resting on a nail or decorative hook.

These original fused glass earrings are 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" long. The hearts are formed in a mold I designed and made, using crushed glass called frit. The glass shrinks as it melts in a kiln and multiple firings are required to create cohesive shapes and patterns.

These earrings are made with a rich pink interior and a soft tangerine outline along the edge of the heart. The gentle blend of color is dynamic and eye-catching.

They are attached to sterling silver ear wires with 24 gauge sterling silver wire, wrapped and accented by playful turquoise glass beads speckled with tiny bumps that start white at the base and blend to yellow and finally orange at the tip. These are bracketed by bright pink seed beads.

Mandala suncatcher

This original design, 8" suncatcher is made using a variety of techniques. I first painted concentric rings radiating from the center in shades of blue and pink and etched out the mandala pattern. This creates an antiqued feel.

After the paint was fused and sandwiched between two panes of clear glass I used glass powder on an outside surface the mimic the etched pattern. The colors in the powder are lines of blues, pinks and purples that stream out from the center.

The way the colors of each pattern run in different directions distracts the eye and creates a greater complexity to the pattern. The contrast between the semi-opacity of the paint and the translucence of the powdered glass with the layer of clear glass between them gives the pattern greater depth and gives this piece an ethereal quality as the powdered pattern seems to radiate out from the painted one.

In order to draw the two together more I added a layer of pale, translucent frit to the back, in shades of blue and pink. This layer imitates the painted one in that it is a series of concentric rings, however, the rings are spaced differently in this layer in order to maintain the illusive quality of the piece.

The glass is framed by a bezel using copper foil, 18 gauge wire and lead-free solder, and hung from a small steel chain.

This piece looks beautiful hanging in a window where it will catch the light and send color across the room, or as a wall hanging.

Matrix Plate

This fused glass plate was made using glass sheet and glass sand called frit. The pattern is created by cutting small squares from translucent sky blue, turquoise and lavender glass, arranging it evenly on another sheet of translucent lavender over opaque white glass and coloring in the spaces between the squares with various shades of blue, green, and purple frit. The frit settles when it is fired so multiple layers are needed to fill the space. the effect created is that of a matrix pattern of undulating shifting colors floating above a fixed plane.

This plate is 9" wide and 3/4" deep.

Dancer

This original design, 11"x9", fused glass suncatcher was cast in an original design, handmade mold using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color and intricacy of design is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings.

It is wrapped with 20 gauge, fine silver wire at two points and hangs from a steel chain.

This piece has a dramatic movement with the thin spiraling arms that extend asymmetrically from the fluid movement of the body. The arms end at the center of the spirals, in brilliant turquoise that blends into cobalt blue, and purple. As the color blends into the body of the piece the colors go from burgundy to red and finally a deep, rich orange at the heart of the dancer.

This is the first of a series of pieces with this title. Color, pattern and/or shape will vary somewhat in the coming pieces.

The Dancer looks beautiful hanging in a window where it will catch the light and send color across the room, or as a wall hanging.

Sea Dragon Vase

This vase is made with four cast glass panels framing and supporting a drop out vase. It is 8.5" tall 8.5"x7.5" across the sides and the vase is 6" deep.
The two tall sides have the same pattern and the two short sides have complimentary patterns.
Panels and vase are all cast in handmade molds using frit. To acquire the intricate coloring, each panel is taken through three rounds of layering frit and fusing. They are each then ground smooth on the edges and ground to fit together, smoothly and snugly, and fired again.
The spiral pattern in the vase is also achieved through the layering of frit.
The panels are wired together with 22 gauge silver wire along the 4 connecting edges.
This is the first of a series of vases and bowls made with panels that interconnect to compliment and support the vessel. Some will use wire, some will connect with interlocking pieces.

This fused glass platter is painted with wide stripes of crimson, pink, yellow, light blue, purple and copper over translucent sky blue glass. The tree is etched into the painted stripes so that the blue of the glass shows through and then it is outlined by gentle highlights of light blue blending into dark teal. The painting is fused under a sheet of clear glass.

This dish is both functional and decorative. The paints are non-toxic and sealed within the glass. It is 11.5" long, 7.5" wide and 1" deep. The clear acrylic stand you see in the picture is also available. It is a wonderful way to display any dish.

This original design, fused glass suncatcher is 5" x 2". It was cast as two separate circles in original design, handmade molds using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color and intricacy of design is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings.

These circles were then slumped into domed shapes and wired together with 22 gauge, copper wire to create a three dimensional suncatcher. It is hung at two by points by entwined red and yellow embroidery floss. This adds flair to the connection and accentuates the colored glass.

I love working with overlapping patterns. While our eyes are trying to focus on one, the other creates a distraction and allows our minds to wander. Because this piece is three dimensional these patterns change as the viewers perspective changes. The penetrating holes lend weight to the inner space viewed through them, making the negative space an integral part of the whole.

This suncatchers can be hung in a window, on a porch, or from the ceiling in the corner of a room to add a little color or movement.

The wires are wrapped and accented by faceted, vibrant, turquoise glass beads bracketed by light green seed beads.

The green and yellow spheres are painted on and fused into the glass in a kiln. In a simplistic sense this resembles a pea pod. But I like to think of it as planets in a solar system being cradled and forever held together by the forces of nature. It also lends to a sense of a mother protecting and cradling her children.

These earrings are light in weight and very vibrant and eye-catching with a comfortable sway. In this piece I borrowed from Native American imagery to segment the spiral and give it a serpentine feel. Colloisi is the name of a sacred serpent in Native American lore. The The cicular bumps within the segments are my own addition to the design.
