Description
This original design, fused glass suncatcher is cast in a mold using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings. The gradient coloring makes it look as if it's being illuminated from the bottom left. It hangs from a thin steel chain that is wrapped around the top curve of the glass. The glass is 12.5" long x 5.75" wide.
When I designed and made the mold, I was thinking about energy, and a depiction of an inanimate object infused with animation. To me this resembles a ribbon draped across something and someone grabs both ends, pulls it taut and lets go, the ends of the ribbon move upwards as if of their own volition.
