Tree Platter

This fused glass platter is painted with wide stripes of crimson, pink, yellow, light blue, purple and copper over translucent sky blue glass. The tree is etched into the painted stripes so that the blue of the glass shows through and then it is outlined by gentle highlights of light blue blending into dark teal. The painting is fused under a sheet of clear glass.

I have always loved trees. I love climbing them, smelling them, listening to the wind move through them, eating their fruit and nuts. Visually I love the fractal quality of their branches and roots, the texture of the bark and structure, and the ways that they change with the seasons. They serve as protection against erosion and provide homes and food for many creatures and are an essential part of our world.

This dish is both functional and decorative. The paints are non-toxic and sealed within the glass. It is 11.5" long, 7.5" wide and 1" deep. The clear acrylic stand you see in the picture is also available. It is a wonderful way to display any dish.
